ÑUU SAVÍ
PEOPLE OF THE RAIN
Ńuu Savi, also known as the Mixtec language, holds profound cultural and historical significance for the Mixtec people, an indigenous group primarily residing in the Mexican states of Oaxaca, Puebla, and Guerrero. According to my research, the term “Ńuu Savi” translates to “Rain People” or “People of the Rain,” reflecting the deep connection between the Mixtec community and their environment. The Mixtec civilization has a rich history that dates back thousands of years, with a complex society known for its contributions to art, agriculture, and astronomy.
The language itself is a cornerstone of Mixtec identity, preserving their rich oral traditions, myths, and historical narratives. It is not just a means of communication but a vessel of culture, heritage, values and the collective memory of the Mixtec people. In recent years, there has been a concerted effort to preserve Ńuu Savi, as many other indigenous languages that faces the threat of extinction due to globalization and dominance of Spanish.
Understanding Ńuu Savi goes beyond linguistic interest; it is an acknowledgment of the resilience and enduring legacy of the Mixtec people. Overall for this website, I will inform in the best of my knowledge on the ancestry of not just the Mixtec people of my culture; but also the rest of Mexico, Central and South America.
